The tolerance is the product.
Anyone can make a part once. A flight-critical part is the same part every time: measured, recorded, and traceable to the bar it was cut from. Choose a feature to read its tolerance.
The hole a pin will turn in. H7 lets it be up to 18 microns larger, and never smaller.
The bore’s axis must sit inside a cylinder one hundredth of a millimetre wide, measured from datums A and B.
The mounting face may not rise or fall more than five microns anywhere across it.
The base face. Every dimension on this part starts here. It is also our mark.
The side face. It fixes the part, so that a position can only mean one thing.
Two mounting holes, each checked on the coordinate measuring machine before the part leaves.
Every part travels with its route card.
Nothing moves to the next operation without a signature. The card goes in the box with the part.
